Celebrate! Independent investigator named, and oppose cuts to college student support

You have called.  You have told your MOC that we need an independent investigation into the Russian government's in U.S. elections and Trump's actions to avert and subvert the FBI investigation.  IT WORKED!

Keep those calls coming.  This is OUR government, we have a right to demand answers and to call for accountability in the actions of the administration.  Way to go, Resisters!

Please log your call here: https://goo.gl/forms/lbHUvI9h58f0dLqx1

Action 1: Call your lawmaker to thank them for pushing for an independent investigation.

Yesterday former FBI Director Robert Mueller was named to investigate the actions of the Russian government in the U.S. elections, and the Trump administration's interference with the FBI investigation. Note that this was a bi-partisan effort, involving both sides of the aisle (GOP and Democrats), a HUGE accomplishment.

Let your MOC know you support the independent investigation and that you still want answers.

“My name is [name], and I’m calling from [city, zip]. I am calling to thank [lawmaker name] for your repeated calls for an independent investigation into the actions of the Russian government and the Trump administration's impeding of the FBI investigation.  Please make sure we continue to demand answers and hold the Trump administration accountable.”

Action 2: Tell your representative we need to support college education for our country’s children.

The Trump administration's new proposed budget is threatening to cut college work-study programs and other college public service initiatives.  These cuts would disproportionately affect working-class families, both in work-study support and in public service initiatives.

From the Washington Post:  “Funding for college work-study programs would be cut in half, public-service loan forgiveness would end and hundreds of millions of dollars that public schools could use for mental health, advanced coursework and other services would vanish under a Trump administration plan to cut $10.6 billion from federal education initiatives, according to budget documents obtained by The Washington Post."

Call your MOCs and tell them not to let Trump take money away from support for college students, especially work-study and public service programs.

“My name is [name], and I’m calling from [city, zip]. I am calling to express my concern about the Trump Administration’s threat in his new budget to cut work-study programs and public service programs for college students.  Please fight to keep these supports in place.”

Resistbot is a text-to-fax tool that takes your text message and turns it into a fax and sends it to your lawmakers.  It also provides a "Letter to the Editor" feature for your message, in which your message may be selected to submit as a letter to the editor of a local or national newspaper.

  • Phone calls are still the quickest method to have your opinion registered immediately.
  • MOC staffers encourage email for more in-depth messages, but they consistently tell us to use whatever contact method that we feel works best for us, including calls, email, US Mail, or faxes.
  • Note that there can be a delay in messages sent via US Mail (due to security precautions) or sent by fax (due to having to screen out "spam" faxes) - so a phone call is recommended if you have an urgent opinion to share.
  • To try Resistbot, text "Resist" to 50409. More info: https://resistbot.io/
