Action 1: Demand answers about the awarding of Chinese trademarks to Donald Trump businesses.
In an unprecedented rapid approval process the Chinese government has awarded 116 very valuable Chinese trademarks to Trump businesses since the election. This could not have happened without the active involvement of top levels of Chinese leadership, and President Trump has changed his stance on China from name-calling and confrontation to praise and cooperation.
The emoluments clause of the Constitution is designed to prevent such mingling of personal and public interest, by prohibits gifts or payments of anything of value to a federal official by foreign governments. Eight Senators, including Patty Murray, have called on the President to explain why the Trump Organization’s acceptance of Chinese trademarks does not violate the Constitution. Thank Senator Murray for taking action on this clear violation of the Constitution, and ask Senator Cantwell to follow her example.
Senator Patty Murray
DC - 202-224-2621
Seattle - 206-553-5545
Script for Senator Murray:
“My name is [name], and I’m calling from [city, zip]. I am calling to thank Senator Murray for demanding answers from the President on his receipt of valuable trademark approvals from the Chinese government, in violation of the Constitution’s emoluments clause. Keep speaking out on the Administration’s conflicts of interest. “
Senator Maria Cantwell
DC - 202-224-3441
Seattle - 206-220-6400
Script for Senator Cantwell:
“My name is [name], and I’m calling from [city, zip]. I am calling to ask Senator Cantwell to join with the eight Senators demanding answers from the President on his receipt of valuable trademark approvals from the Chinese government, in violation of the Constitution’s emoluments clause. The Administration should act for us, not for his business interests.”

Action 2: Protect the SNAP program (formerly Food Stamps) to support families in need.
President Trump's budget proposes a massive $197 billion cut to SNAP benefits (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program formerly known as food stamps) over the next ten years and creates stringent barriers to the program for hungry families. We know this would hurt our kids, our families and our economy! 43 million people—including 1 in 4 children— rely on SNAP for food each day.
Urge your representative to do whatever it takes to preserve this vital program for our food-insecure neighbors.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal:
DC - 202-225-3106
Seattle - 206-674-0040
Rep. Adam Smith:
DC - 202-225-8901
Renton - 425-793-5180
“The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is one of the strongest tools our country has in combating hunger and poverty. I strongly urge you to reject current proposals to make massive funding cuts to SNAP. In addition, I ask that you work against any measures that would create barriers to access to qualifying individuals (including work requirements), or that would change the successful structure of the program, including block grants.”
GOOD NEWS & Optional Action: Thank Gov. Inslee for forming the U.S. Climate Alliance
Yesterday our own Gov. Inslee, Gov. Cuomo of NY, and Gov. Brown of CA announced the formation of the U.S. Climate Alliance. They stated that WA, NY, and CA will uphold the terms of the Paris climate agreement in spite of Trump’s reckless decision to pull out, and the Alliance will attempt to unite more states in this commitment going forward.
Our governor deserves to feel appreciated for recognizing the importance of the Paris agreement and standing up to Trump by making this commitment. Give him a call to show him some love!
Governor Jay Inslee - 360-902-4111 (Olympia)
“My name is [NAME] and I am calling from [CITY, ZIP]. I want to express my gratitude to Gov. Inslee for leading the charge on climate action by helping to form the U.S. Climate Alliance and committing our state to uphold the Paris climate agreement. I am proud to live in a state that stands up for what is right.”
