Action: 22 million reasons to increase the heat on key Republican Senators

Yesterday’s Congressional Budget Office analysis shows that after weeks of closed door tinkering, the bill produced by Senate Republican leaders (the Better Care Reconciliation Act or BCRA) would still strip access to health care from 22 million Americans, with 15 million losing health coverage as soon as next year.  The CBO report says that with high premiums and monster deductibles “few low-income people would purchase any plan” under the BCRA. Instead, health care cuts will finance a massive tax cut for the rich. The BCRA will cut Medicaid spending by 26% precisely when aging baby boomers will need the program for long-term care in nursing homes and home health programs. Overall, the percentage of uninsured Americans will double. People will die.

This is a "do or die" week for Trumpcare (some would say do and die). Trump and Mitch McConnell know that if they do not pass their vicious repeal of the Affordable Care Act this week, constituent pressure over the 4th of July recess will make passage all but impossible. If three Republican Senators vote “no,” the bill will fail.

While Seattle Indivisible normally urges calls to our own Members of Congress, this moment of crisis demands an exception.  Please call the offices of these Republican Senators who have expressed reservations or opposition to the act. Being flooded with calls from both in-state and out of state sends a message of concern/rejection about Trumpcare, and puts them on notice that they are being watched. If you have been reluctant to call them, get over it-- now is the time. If you have called before, please call again. Fill their voicemails!

Good News:

Officials in Washington State are working hard to maintain access to healthcare. While our Democratic Senators and Representatives fight Trumpcare in the other Washington, state Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler is negotiating with insurance companies to return to Washington counties they left when the Trump administration destabilized the individual market:  https://www.insurance.wa.gov/news/kreidler-klickitat-county-will-have-two-insurers-2018

A note from our Senators' staffers:

"Hi everybody--Tommy (Cantwell) and Richard (Murray) will be available from 12:30p to 1:30p tomorrow (Tuesday, 6/27) at the Jackson Federal Building. Unfortunately both the large auditorium-style rooms are booked so we'll be in Room 440--just take a left after going through security at the 2nd Avenue entrance to the building.  Looking forward to seeing you!"
