Defend Dodd-Frank and Stand Against Sinclair!

Action 1: Defend Dodd-Frank

The Financial CHOICE Act (H.R. 10) is a Republican bill that would gut the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act. The bill would undo many of the financial regulations put in place to prevent a second Great Recession, and it is expected to go to a floor vote by the end of this week. Call your house representative and tell them to vote NO!

Rep. Pramila Jayapal:
DC - 202-225-3106
Seattle - 206-674-0040

Rep. Adam Smith:
DC - 202-225-8901
Renton - 425-793-5180

“My name is [name], and I’m calling from [city, zip] about the Financial CHOICE Act. Gutting Dodd-Frank is a bad idea that could lead to another Great Recession – I would like to ask [MoC] to vote against this bill when it comes to the floor.”

Action 2: Stand Against Sinclair-Tribune Merger

A pending merger would give Sinclair Broadcast Group, a pro-Trump media company, control of 70% of the local airways in America, which is in clear violation of FCC rules. It also has local ramifications, as the merger would make Sinclair owner of both KOMO 4 and KCPQ 13, two of the top four local stations in Seattle.

Two weeks ago, we called Sen. Cantwell to express our concerns about the Sinclair-Tribune merger, and she heard us! This week she led a group of 7 senators to request further examination of the merger through public hearings.  Thank Sen. Cantwell for her leadership, and ask Sen. Murray to join her in keeping the pressure on!

Senator Maria Cantwell:
DC - 202-224-3441
Seattle - 206-220-6400

Script for Sen. Cantwell:

“My name is [name], and I’m calling from [city, zip]. I want to thank Sen. Cantwell for leading the charge against the Sinclair-Tribune merger, and ask that she keep pushing for public hearings and take a strong stance against the merger.”

Senator Patty Murray:
DC - 202-224-2621
Seattle - 206-553-5545

Script for Sen. Murray:

“My name is [name], and I’m calling from [city, zip]. I was pleased to see that 7 senators joined Sen. Cantwell recently to ask for further scrutiny about the Sinclair-Tribune merger, but I noticed that Sen. Murray’s name was not on the list. This merger would give over 70% of the airwaves to a pro-Trump media group, including two stations local to Seattle. I would like to ask that Sen. Murray add her name to the list of Senators demanding public hearings in the light of this mergers' likely violation of FCC rules.”

Good News: We’ll Always Have Paris

The “We Are Still In” movement is a growing coalition of states, cities, and companies that have signed on to say that they will continue to abide by the Paris Climate agreement “in the absence of leadership by Washington”. Together, this coalition currently represents 120 million Americans and $6.2 trillion dollars of the American economy, and it will only grow.
