Use This New Tool to Pressure Repubs on Health Care

Say it with us: this is not over. With a game-changing new tool provided by Indivisible HQ, we can reach into red states and help pressure wavering Republicans to vote against the bill! This tool is currently focused on Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (WV) and Sen. Dean Heller (NV) as key pressure points.

Background

We lost a procedural vote today that puts Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that much closer to the finish line. But he still has a huge lift on his hands: convince 50 Senators to vote for a complete dumpster fire of a bill—a bill that will cause 15 to 32 million people to lose their insurance, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, and a bill that at least 58 Senators are on record as opposing in some previous iteration.

Usually a vote for the Motion to Proceed (MTP) signals support for the underlying bill. But senators literally do not know which bill they’re taking a final vote on — which means the outcome is anyone’s guess. The vote on final passage will be Thursday or Friday, so we need you RIGHT NOW.

Action: Pressure Republicans by Connecting them to Constituents!

Using it is a simple four-part process:

  1. You call a voter in a key state with a swing Republican. First, you’ll make calls to the folks in target states. These folks are your friends—they attended the Women’s March and/or fight for progressive causes.
  2. You explain how they have power now. You’ll remind them why the continued fight against TrumpCare is so important—and why they have particular power in this moment.
  3. You ask them to use their power. Then, you’ll ask them to call their senator in opposition to the bill, and to share their own reasons for opposing it.
  4. The tool connects them to their Senator’s office. The call tool will allow you to automatically patch them through to the Senators’ district offices.

It’s that easy, and this is our only action for today - so take a deep breath, feel your frustration, and then take action to once again defeat this bill that never dies!
