Action: Show Solidarity Against Hate

White supremacist terrorists on Saturday turned violent at a racist rally at Emancipation Park in Charlottesville, Virginia, leaving at least one* anti-racism activist dead. This is an appalling and horrific act.

Here are a few things you can do to counter this hate:

  1. Attend the Solidarity Against Hate march starting at 1pm in Denny Park, 100 N Dexter Ave. This march will proceed towards Westlake Park, where white supremacists are holding a "Freedom Day" protest. https://www.facebook.com/events/106392863386389/?ti=icl
  2. Support the organizations on the ground in Virginia who are standing up for the people under attack by these white supremacists. See this post for a list of who needs your help. https://medium.com/@SaraJBenincasa/what-to-do-about-charlottesville-dfc7d6636d56

Good News:

Reportedly, the white supremacists decided to hold their rally because Charlottesville was in the process of removing a statue of Robert E. Lee from Emancipation Park (nee Lee Park). Lexington, KY major Jim Gray decided that this was reason to announce and accelerate planned removals of the pro-slavery monuments from his city. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/8/12/16139142/charlottesville-va-protests-lexington-mayor
