This week's showdown is déjà vu all over again for Dreamers. 800.000 young people brought to the US as children were left in limbo when Congress omitted the Dreamer Act attached to the short-term budget resolution that was passed in December. Behind the President’s racist rhetoric, the harsh fact remains that American families are on the verge of being ripped apart.
The Continuing Resolution, which expires this Friday January 19th, should be the opportunity for legislation that cleanly protects Dreamers and provides them a path to citizenship. It must not be a vehicle for racist measures like border walls or an end to family reunification. Today, thank our Members of Congress for supporting Dreamers last year and remind them once again that a continuing resolution without a clean Dream Act is unacceptable—no clean Dream, no CR. Thank our Members of Congress for supporting Dreamers last year and remind them once again that a continuing resolution without a clean Dream Act is unacceptable—no clean Dream, no CR.
Action: Demand a Clean Dream Act
“Hello! My name is [NAME] and I’m calling from [ZIP]. I’m calling to thank [MOC NAME] for voting against Continuing Resolutions that didn’t include the DREAM Act last December. Dreamers still deserve MoCs who will stand with them and use their power to protect them from the Trump deportation machine. The demands of the Administration and its enablers to tie border wall funding or other harsh immigration measures to DACA renewal are unacceptable. I urge you to make clear that you cannot support a spending bill that omits a clean DREAM Act. A vote on a Continuing Resolution or any other must-pass vehicle that does not include a solution for Dreamers is a vote for the deportation of 800,000 young immigrants.”
