Support Affirmative Action in WA

Back in 1998, a WA state ballot initiative called I-200 passed that effectively banned affirmative action. Finally, after 20 years, legislators are trying to correct this with SB 6406, which has a hearing scheduled this Friday! SB 6406 would partially reverse I-200, and would be a step toward fair treatment of underserved groups by restoring an affirmative action component to the award of public contracts.

We can’t waste this opportunity, so we’re giving you multiple ways to help get this bill passed!

ACTION 1: Tell Your State Reps to support SB 6406

Find your one state Senator and two state House Representatives (and save them to your phone if you haven’t already):


“My name is [NAME] and I am calling from [City or Neighborhood]. I would like [representative] to support SB 6406, which would restore an affirmative action component to the award of public contracts.”

ACTION 2: Tell the State Government Committee to Support SB 6406

Email the State Senators on this committee (which will be holding the Friday hearing) using your own words. Remember, personal stories always help!
