Don’t Compromise the Environment for Infrastructure

The president has been trumping up a big $1.5 trillion dollar infrastructure plan, but as you might expect, the leaked versions of it are heinous. Among other things, the plan robs public health to give to corporations. According to the Center for American Progress, the plan threatens to cripple at least 10 crucial environmental laws that protect our health and our world, including NEPA, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. For instance, the plan would prioritize property development over the protection of endangered species, and would allow companies to increase efficiency by disregarding air and water quality standards.

Republicans are gearing up to push this plan hard this year, so we need to show our opposition early and often. That way we can make sure that our representatives do not try to compromise, but instead oppose it from the get-go.

“Hi, my name is [NAME] and I am calling from [ZIP] regarding Trump’s supposed infrastructure plan. As I’m sure you know, the leaked versions of this plan include fundamental changes to environmental protections such as NEPA, ESA, and the Clean Water and Air Acts. I would like [Rep] to make it clear that she/he will not agree to any plan that throws the environment under the bus.”
