Don't Let Russia Tip the Midterms

Given the success of its campaign to interfere in the 2016 election, there’s little doubt that Russia will try its hand at swaying elections in 2018 and beyond. Dan Coats, director of national intelligence, told the Senate Intelligence Committee last week that Russia is likely to interfere again in the 2018 midterms. “There should be no doubt that Russia perceives that its past efforts have been successful and views the 2018 midterm US elections as a potential target for Russian influence operations,” Coats, the nation’s top spy, said. “Frankly, the United States is under attack.”

“My name is [name] and I’m calling from [city, zip]. ]. I'm calling today because I need to know that our 2018 midterm elections will be protected from influence from social media and advertising.  I am horrified that the Russian government attacked our voting systems in 39 states in the 2016 presidential elections – and succeeded in penetrating Illinois’.
[If Sen. Murray:] "I’d like to thank Sen. Murray for cosponsoring the Honest Ads Act (S. 1989), and ask that she do all she can to push this and other legislation to prevent Russia’s influence.”
[If Sen. Cantwell:] “I expect Sen. Cantwell to cosponsor the Honest Ads Act (S. 1989) as Sen. Murray has, and to do everything she can to push this and other legislation to prevent Russia’s influence.”
[If Representative:] “I expect [Representative] to do everything [she/he] can to enact regulations to protect the voting systems in all states.”
