Keep the Secret Service out of Polling Places

Official Action for Tuesday, March 13

We have our regular Resist Trump Tuesday rally and weekly meeting today. You can find more details at the end of this message. We hope to see you there!

Don’t forget to fill out our call log so that we can track our impact: https://goo.gl/forms/lbHUvI9h58f0dLqx1

Remember back in 2016 when Trump told his followers that they could fight voter fraud by showing up to polling places in “certain” (minority-heavy) areas? Well now the House has passed legislation that would allow the president to dispatch armed secret service members to polling places on election day. The measure is included as a rider on the House’s version of a bill reauthorizing the Department of Homeland Security. It’s not currently in the Senate version of the bill--let’s make sure our senators keep it that way!

Sen. Patty Murray: (202) 224-2621, (206) 553-5545
Sen. Maria Cantwell: (202) 224-3441, (206) 220-6400

Sample Script:
“Hello I’m [name] from [city, zip code]. I’m calling about a rider attached to the House version of the Department of Homeland Security Authorization Act that would allow armed secret service agents to enter polling areas. This rider represents a terrifying executive overreach and opens the door for voter intimidation. Senator [name] must fight to keep this rider out of the Senate version of the bill and vote against the bill if the rider is attached.”
