Support the Student Walkout for Gun Safety

OFFICIAL DAILY ACTION FOR Wednesday, March 14:

--------------------------------------------

At 10:00 a.m. today (Wednesday 3/14) students in Washington state and across the country will walk out of school, march, and take direct action for gun control.

Since the events of Sandy Hook in 2012, over four hundred people have been shot on a school campus, and over a quarter of those victims were killed. This data reflects decades of lawmakers failing to put the safety of  students  before their own partisan bickering and special interests. This is a gun issue, not a mental health issue. It’s about access to guns and assault weapons. The solution to this problem is not to militarize classrooms by giving teachers guns. What we all need is comprehensive gun control.

Action:  Call federal and state lawmakers in support of student demands

Sen. Patty Murray: DC 202-224-2621; Seattle 206-553-5545

Sen. Maria Cantwell: DC 202-224-3441; Seattle 206-220-6400

Rep. Pramila Jayapal: DC - 202-225-3106; Seattle - 206-674-0040

Rep. Adam Smith: DC - 202-225-8901; Renton - 425-793-5180

Gov. Jay Inslee: 360-902-4111

Sample Script

“Hello! My name is [NAME] and I’m calling from [ZIP]. I’m calling in support of the students all over Washington State who are walking out of class today to demand an end to gun violence.   Students are asking for concrete, achievable measures, including:

• A ban on assault-style weapons.

• Raising the legal age of gun ownership to 21.

• Comprehensive background checks.

• [Reps and Senators only] A ban on bump stocks or any devices that modify semi-automatic weapons.

Does  [NAME] support these gun safety measures to protect our children?”
