The ACLU, the EFF, and other civil liberties groups are raising a red flag about the CLOUD Act, a bill that currently enjoys bipartisan support. This bill would allow the executive branch to give data stored on American servers to foreign governments--without any judicial oversight. This means that if foreign governments want to spy on activists within their borders, they can more easily do so using data that Facebook stores in America. These governments can then share what they found--without a warrant--with the FBI. The CLOUD Act is a threat to human rights globally, and we must fight it!
Rep. Pramila Jayapal: (202) 225-3106, (206) 674-0040
Rep. Adam Smith: (202) 225-8901, (425) 793-5180
Sen. Patty Murray: (202) 224-2621, (206) 553-5545
Sen. Maria Cantwell: (202) 224-3441, (206) 220-6400
“Hello I’m [name] from [city, zip code], and I’m calling about the CLOUD Act. Now more than ever, we cannot allow our executive branch to share private data with foreign governments unsupervised. [Senator/Representative name] must oppose the CLOUD Act, and must oppose the omnibus bill if the CLOUD Act becomes attached to it.”
Resist Trump Tuesday Rally
Featuring Charlie James
11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: The Federal Building, 915 Second Ave, Seattle
At this week's Tuesday rally we are honored to host a true civil rights legend, featured speaker Charlie James. Charlie James will talk about what it really means to be an activist in Martin Luther King County, and join us as we are inspired by live music, and the shared camaraderie from knowing that we are standing strong, together, on the right side of history--and that we will persist. The rally will be followed by our standing meeting with Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell's staff from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Please join us--we need your voice!
7-9 p.m.: Woodland Park United Methodist Church, 302 N 78th St, Seattle, WA 98103
We’re only eleven weeks into 2018, and there have already been at least 14 school shootings in the U.S. That averages out to 1.3 shootings a week. This week we are preparing to support our children when they take to the streets on 3/24 to March for Our Lives. We’ll be making signs, all material provided! Join us and bring your kids! Enter from the parking lot in BACK of the church. We’re in the first room on your left.
NOTE: Beginning March 27, we will move our weekly Tues. meetings to the Washington State Labor Council (321 16th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144)! This location can be reached on King County Metro routes 5 and 45.
