How to Fight the Transgender Troop Ban

This week Trump issued a ban on transgender people serving in the military, singling out “transgender persons who require or have undergone gender transitions” as disqualified from service. In spite of assurances from the pundits that this was just a tweet that the Pentagon could ignore, Trump’s bigoted tweets turned into real discrimination for transgender troops who are serving our country.

The issue is also continuing to move through the courts, including in a lawsuit filed in Seattle by LGBT rights organizations and Attorney General Bob Ferguson.

This is a tough one because of Trump’s executive powers, but there are some concrete actions we can take to fight the ban:

1. Send an email to Attorney General Ferguson thanking him for fighting the ban and ask him to redouble his efforts:

2. If you are able, make a donation to the LGBT rights groups that have filed lawsuits here and in the District of Columbia: Lambda Legal, GLAD, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights:

3. Ask our national representatives what they are doing to use their megaphones and oversight powers to fight the transgender ban. Email your Senators and Congressperson all at once with this link:
