Black Lives Matter (BLM) King County put out an action alert this week calling for King County leaders to take action and stop construction on the new youth jail in Seattle. Let’s help amplify their voice!
From BLM King County: “Last week protesters took peaceful, direct action to oppose the construction of the new youth jail in the Central District. Communities, faith leaders, and human services providers in Seattle and across King County have consistently opposed the youth jail in favor of increased community based youth support, intervention and prevention services.
“Leaders of the county are not listening. They are not taking action that aligns with the values and safety needs of the community, particularly Black and Brown communities which are disproportionately impacted by youth incarceration.”

“Hi, my name is [NAME] and I live in [neighborhood]. I’m calling to demand that construction on the new youth jail be stopped. Community and faith leaders across King County have consistently opposed a new youth jail, as it would be harmful to minority communities that are disproportionately affected by youth incarceration. It is time to listen to listen to their voices and to the voices of those protesting at the construction site – please stop construction of the new youth jail.”
