Protect Mueller now!

OFFICIAL DAILY ACTION for Friday April 27th, 2018:

Don’t forget to fill out our call log so that we can track our impact:

Now is the time.

In a 14-7 vote Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved legislation that would protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller from being improperly fired by President Donald Trump. Our Senators have told us that although they would like to co-sponsor this crucial bill, but there was little they could do while it was in committee. Now it is out of committee, and there are many more ways our Senators can advocate for it. With Trump threatening Special Counsel Mueller on a daily basis, those who respect the rule of law must do all they can to protect his investigation. Only a very strong show of support in the Senate, including co sponsorship if possible, can force Majority Leader McConnell to allow this bill a vote on the floor. It is urgent that our Senators do all they can to pass these protections.

Action: Call our Senators and urge them to go all out for the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act

Sen. Patty Murray: DC 202-224-2621; Seattle 206-553-5545

Sen. Maria Cantwell: DC 202-224-3441; Seattle 206-220-6400

Sample Script

“Hello! My name is [NAME] and I’m calling from [CITY, ZIP]. I want to thank Senator [NAME] for speaking out in the past to protect the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Now that the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act has been approved in committee, I urge Senator [NAME] to support it as strongly as she can, including co-sponsorship if Senate procedure allows, to compel Mitch McConnell to bring it to the floor for a vote.”

Two weeks ago, we called our Members of Congress to stop Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his Department of Justice from suspending  the Legal Orientation Program (LOP) for detained immigrants. On Wednesday, under pressure from Congress, Sessions relented, and the program which helps detained immigrants navigate the detention process, will now continue for at least the next year!
