Republicans need Democrats’ help to pass the Farm Bill (it requires more than a simple majority) – so we need to use our leverage to make sure we block it until it’s clean of sneaky amendments and cuts to SNAP.
The House recently passed its version of the bill out of committee, and it is expected to come to a floor vote this week. The House Farm Bill includes an amendment called PICA – the Protect Interstate Commerce Act – which would prevent states and local governments from adopting their own pesticide regulations, their own protections against animal abuse, and more. Further, it would invalidate those state laws which already exist.
The House Farm Bill also contains enormous cuts to SNAP, the food stamp program that serves millions of Americans in need. Cuts to SNAP would deprive poor families of needed benefits, and the repercussions of PICA would be devastating to the future of food and water safety as well as animal rights.
Action: Tell Reps to vote no on the Farm Bill containing PICA and cuts to SNAP.

Script for House Reps:
"Hello, I’m [name] from [city, zip]. I am appalled by the contents of the House Farm Bill, and hope that [Rep] will vote against it when it comes to the floor. The bill contains massive cuts to SNAP, a program that benefits millions of Americans in need. Further, it contains a version of PICA as an amendment, which would prevent states from passing their own regulations on pesticides, food labelling, and animal protections. Please do everything you can to prevent a Farm Bill containing these provisions from passing.”
