With the Trump Organization considering outdoor tent prison camps for kids separated from their parents at the border, and Jeff Sessions quoting biblical verse to defend the policy, the family separation policy is continuing unabated. From the slave trade to internment camps, this echoes some of the darkest chapters of American history and could get worse if we don’t act now.
We have a few quick suggested actions for you to take today to fight family separation. Please choose what works for you:
1) Make a donation to RAICES Texas, one of the organizations on the front lines providing legal services at the border and fighting to reunite families. You can also earmark a contribution directly to their Family Reunification and Bond Fund:
2) Keep making noise and making headlines. We are co-sponsoring the Families Belong Together rally this Sunday at noon in Westlake Park, and hope you can join us: https://www.facebook.com/events/2121249018088293/
3) If Democrats win Congress in November, they can subpoena documents from ICE to expose human rights abuses, withhold funding, and may even have a chance of ending this atrocity altogether. Sign up for the next door-knocking or phone-banking event that fits your schedule by entering your zip code here: https://www.wa-democrats.org/event/index
