No Defunding ICE or CBP, No Vote

Yesterday, Trump signed an executive order that he claims puts an end to family separation. What this order actually does is perpetuate the zero tolerance policy by creating family jails. What’s more, it hinges on violating the 1997 Flores settlement, which prohibits immigration officials from detaining children for more than 20 days. Even worse, there are still no plans to reunite the thousands of families that have already been separated under this cruel policy.

Let your Senators know: we are not mollified by Trump’s tissue-thin effort to avoid culpability, and we will not let this issue be swept under the rug. Ask them to treat this like the emergency it is, and vote against any spending bills that do not reduce funding for ICE or CBP. These agencies have been terrorizing immigrant communities, ripping parents away from their children, and harassing immigrants and people of color in their workplaces, schools, and in the community. Democrats need to hold these agencies accountable for their behavior.

“Hi, my name is NAME and I live in CITY. First of all I’d like to thank [MoC] for fighting against family separation at the border over the past weeks. In light of this ongoing emergency, I would like to see [MoC] vote no on any future spending bills that do not reduce funding for ICE or CBP – these agencies have both been responsible for cruel and inhumane actions, and they must be held accountable.”
