Protect Immigrant Families

The Trump administration has a new policy of separating all asylum-seeking children from their parents at the border. 600 kids were removed from their families in May, and are being held in detention centers. On Sunday, Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon tried to inspect one facility, a converted WalMart in Texas, and was turned away after local police were called. A Seattle protest at the Seattle ICE office yesterday resulted in arrests. This has to stop.

Action 1

Ask our Senators and Representatives to insist on congressional oversight of ICE, starting with children's detention facilities

  • Sen. Patty Murray:--DC 202-224-2621; Seattle 206-553-5545
  • Sen. Maria Cantwell--DC 202-224-3441; Seattle 206-220-6400
  • Rep. Pramila Jayapal--DC 202-225-3106; Seattle 206-674-0040
  • Rep. Adam Smith--DC 202-225-8901; Renton 425-793-5180

Script

Hi, my name is [NAME], and I'm calling from [CITY, ZIP]. I'm calling today to ask [Senator/Representative] to insist on congressional oversight of the ICE facilities housing children who have been forcibly separated from their parents. I am furious that Senator Merkley was turned away from one such facility. I am calling on [Senator/Representative] to go to the detention facility in Tacoma for an inspection, to initiate an official investigation immediately, and to get those kids back with their parents.

Action 2

Call, e-mail and tweet at Pete Holmes, Seattle City Attorney, to demand the release of the Anti-ICE 9, activists arrested Tuesday for standing against Trump's Deportation Forces and for our communities!

Phone number: 206 684 7757
E-mail: Peter.Holmes@seattle.gov

Script for calls/e-mails:

I'm calling/e-mailing to ask that you immediately release the activists arrested today protesting ICE in downtown Seattle, and that you drop any charges against them. Seattle should be proud of those standing up against Trump's deportation forces, and as City Attorney you should stand on the side of the people, not on the side of immigration enforcement.

@CityAttyPeteH Release the Anti-ICE 9 on their own recognizance! We should celebrate those standing up to ICE, not jail them. #WhoseSideAreYouOn
