Senators: Commit to Blocking Trump's Supreme Court Nominee

On Meet the Press Yesterday, Senator Cantwell made clear the stakes of the upcoming battle to fill retiring Justice Kennedy's Supreme Court seat:

"My colleagues on both sides of the aisle know that this vote could be one of the key votes of their entire career. If they vote for somebody who’s going to change precedent, it could be a career-ending move."

The problem is, both she and Senator Murray want to wait until an extreme nominee is chosen, and let them dodge questions at their nomination hearings before deciding whether to vote against them! But we already know the list of nominees Trump intends to choose from, and we already know they will overturn hard-fought precedent on women's rights, LGBT rights, and more. Only by publicly disavowing these extremist nominees up front can we build the momentum to block or force a more moderate candidate.

Ask your Senators to make a public commitment NOW to block extreme nominees.

Sen. Maria Cantwell--DC 202-224-3441; Seattle 206-220-6400

Sen. Patty Murray:--DC 202-224-2621; Seattle 206-553-5545

SCRIPT: "Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm calling from [CITY]. While I appreciate the Senator's commitment to voting against a nominee who will overturn precedent on hard-fought civil rights, there’s no need to wait and find out who the nominee will be. I'd like a public commitment from the Senator to vote against Trump's list of 25 that are all unqualified or too extreme to sit on the Supreme Court."
