GOOD NEWS: Yesterday the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to postpone a full Senate vote until the FBI has had a week to investigate sexual misconduct claims against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. While this is only a partial reprieve, the delay in the vote prevents the nomination from being confirmed until the FBI gets a chance to look into Kavanaugh allegations. https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation-politics/how-sen-flake-brought-the-senate-back-from-the-brink/
THANK YOU! for contacting our Senators and Members of Congress over the past several weeks to denounce this nomination!
TODAY let’s turn the focus back to the Mueller investigation. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, second-in-command at the Justice Department, and the official in charge of the Russia investigation by former FBI Director Robert Mueller, is at risk of losing his job.
Reports have swirled regarding the Deputy AG’s job for several days and weeks. Last week the New York Times reported that Rosenstein was intending to resign after hearing rumors that President Trump was about to fire him. Following a detailed conversation with White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and with Trump by phone, Rosenstein remains in his job. Reportedly both Kelly and Trump have indicated that the president has plans to “clean house” at the Justice Department – but not until after the midterm elections, to avoid political fallout that might influence the elections even more.
Rosenstein has also indicated he is alert to ways that President Trump could be removed from office. Along with his supervision of the Mueller Investigation into Russian government meddling in U.S. elections, this puts him in a precarious position. Yet by doing his job Rosenstein is defending our open and democratic system of government that is under attack by Trump and his supporters.
ACTION: Call and leave voicemail for our Members of Congress to defend Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein and his work!
- and thank our Senators for their work to defeat the Kavanaugh nomination.

[IF SENATOR] First, thank you for your work toward defeating the Kavanaugh nomination. The delay in the Senate vote and the FBI investigation is an important step forward.
[ALL] Today I am calling about the need to protect the Mueller investigation. I am very concerned that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein may resign, or be fired by President Trump. I have read that Rosenstein is defending the Mueller investigation and has prevented attempts by the Trump Administration to fire Robert Mueller. Please do everything possible to ensure the investigation continues and that Rosenstein continues in his job.
