It is shameful but not remotely surprising that an FBI investigation aimed at shedding light on accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh has already become the object of political manipulation. But here we are in the Trump era. The Senate’s main purpose is to represent us. They are supposed to represent us in all areas of their work, including their “advise and consent” duties regarding presidential nominees. The issue here is not political. Brett Kavanaugh is in the middle of an extremely important job interview. How could any responsible manager hire Kavanaugh with so many unanswered questions and hugely disturbing allegations for any job? Let alone a lifetime appointment to the US Supreme Court?
Bottom line: The White House is limiting the scope of the FBI’s investigation into allegations against Kavanaugh. This is unacceptable! We demand a real investigation!
Senator Murray sent this tweet when she found out:
“This is deeply concerning. FBI investigation shouldn’t be limited or a box to check in rush to confirm. It needs to be real investigation of all credible allegations, relevant witnesses, and info -PM”
Thank Senator Murray for her strong leadership on this issue and ask our other MoCs to lend their voices as well in calling for a real investigation.
ACTION 1: Thank Sen. Murray:
• Sen. Patty Murray - DC 202-224-2621; Seattle 206-553-5545
“Hello, I’m [name] from [city, zip]. I’d like to thank Senator Murray for her principled leadership in opposing Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court. I also want to thank her for speaking out on the White House limiting the scope of the FBI’s investigation into Kavanaugh. Please ask her to continue to use her platform to speak out on this. We deserve a complete investigation.”
ACTION 2: Call our MoCs
• Sen. Maria Cantwell - DC 202-224-3441; Seattle 206-220-6400
• Rep. Pramila Jayapal: DC (202) 225-3106; Seattle (206) 674-0040
• Rep. Adam Smith: DC (202) 225-8901; Seattle (425) 793-5180
“Hello, I’m [name] from [city, zip]. This is simply unacceptable given the disturbing nature of the allegations. We deserve a thorough investigation.”
Resist Trump Tuesday
Join us this Tuesday when we welcome former State Representative Jesse Wineberry to explain I-1000; the state initiative that seeks to bring back affirmative action in this state. Jesse Wineberry will explain how current law makes it difficult to recruit, hire or promote applicants who are under-represented and how I-1000 would change that.
We will also welcome a speaker from Families For Families to speak on the Trump administration's new policy of indefinite detention of immigrant children, and how the administration's threat of no green card if you're a "public charge" has immigrant families fearfully avoiding needed public services.
We rally every Tuesday from 11:45AM-12:30PM, followed by our standing meeting with Senator Murray's and Senator Cantwell's staff from 12:30-1:30PM. Please join us -- we need your voice!
