Shutdown Over, Let’s Send Some Thank-you’s

Official Daily Action for Saturday, January 26th, 2019

**Scheduling Reminders: this coming Tuesday there will be a shutdown-themed Resist Trump Tuesday Rally, 11:45 a.m. outside the Federal Building, followed by a meeting with House staffers. There will be no nightly Seattle Indivisible meeting (nightly meetings resume in February on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, 7pm at the Washington Labor Council!).

Thanks in no small part to the pressure of your phone calls and office visits, Democrats stood strong and forced Trump to fold and reopen the government…with no wall or border security funding whatsoever! In return all Trump won was a bipartisan commission that will negotiate on border security. Now some thank-you’s are in order.

First, email your federal representatives and thank them, in your own words, for not blinking in the face of Trump’s shutdown and forcing him to re-open with no wall funding:

Next, we have some local officials to thank for looking after federal workers during this difficult time. Many families were hurting during this time. Email Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan to thank her for deferring utility bills for federal workers affected by the shutdown:

We can also thank Governor Jay Inslee for expanding unemployment benefits to federal workers who were directed to work without pay:
