It’s time to demand immediate back pay for ALL federal employees INCLUDING contractors!
Trump’s cabinet members really embodied exactly what being out of touch looked like as billionaire after billionaire displayed a disconnect the likes of which are rarely on display as each commented on the effects of the Trump Shutdown on federal employees.
Here are just a couple examples:
-Mick Mulvaney "After workers get back to work, with back pay, it will work out better for them."
-Wilbur Ross "I don’t understand why federal workers are in line at shelters when they should just take out a loan."
There were similar sentiments expressed even by Trump’s family, but here is the real deal.
The Trump Shutdown had an immeasurably negative impact on federal employees, government contractors, and the economy as a whole. We need to expedite back pay to, not only the 800K government employees, but also to government contractors which has NOT been agreed upon yet.
Bottom Line. Low-wage employees of federal contractors have been denied pay during a shutdown they had no role in causing, and they deserve to be made whole once it is over.
Senator Van Hollen Introduced the Fair Compensation For Low-Wage Contractor Employee Act which would accomplish just that.
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives with the same name.
Representative Jayapal is a cosponsor on the House bill.
ACTION: Thank Rep. Jayapal and tell our other MoCs to pay people for their work…..NOW!
• Sen. Patty Murray: DC 202-224-2621; Seattle 206-553-5545
• Sen. Maria Cantwell: DC 202-224-3441; Seattle 206-220-6400
• Rep. Pramila Jayapal: DC 202-225-3106; Seattle 206-674-0040
• Rep. Adam Smith: DC 202-225-8901; Renton 425-793-5180
My name is __________ and I’m calling from _______. I believe in paying people for the work they do. In the interest of mitigating some of the unnecessary pain caused by the Trump Shutdown, I’m asking [MoC] to do everything possible to expedite back pay to the 800K federal employees AND to please add their name as a cosponsor to the Fair Compensation for Low-Wage Contractor Employees Act. Pay the independent contractors as soon as possible to keep our economy running.
Script For Rep. Jayapal
My name is __________ and I’m calling from _______. Thank Rep Jayapal for cosponsoring the Fair Compensation for Low-Wage Contractor Employees Act and continuing to stand for what's fair. People deserve to get paid for their work.

RESIST TRUMP TUESDAY THIS WEEK
Come hear from people directly impacted by this shutdown, how much pain was caused, and what we expect as we negotiate the new terms. No more hostage taking! Do not use DACA recipients as leverage! Governing by threat of shutdown is NOT governing.
We rally at the Federal Building from 11:45AM-12:30PM, immediately followed by a meeting from 12:30-1:30PM with representatives from the offices of Rep. Adam Smith and Rep. Pramila Jayapal.
