It is time to put an end to gun violence, and the U.S. House has introduced three important bills to address this: the Keep Americans Safe Act, the Disarm Hate Act, and the Extreme Risk Protection Act. A few weeks ago Amnesty International USA sent a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee urging these three bills to be passed.
From Amnesty International USA (link below under “More Information”):
“Everyone deserves to go about their life in this country, free from fear and the constant threat of gun violence. Members of Congress need to do the job they were elected to do and be the leaders this country needs them to be by passing critically needed gun safety laws.
“By prioritizing guns over people, our leaders are trampling over human rights and ignoring this country’s cherished values of equality, dignity, and security, and for this, we are holding them accountable.”
Briefly, here is the purpose of each of these acts:
The Keep Americans Safe Act reinstates a national ban on high-capacity gun magazines.
The Disarm Hate Act funds programs to prevent individuals with behavioral risks from purchasing weapons.
The Extreme Risk Protection Act keep those convicted of hate crimes from buying guns.
Today we're asking you to send a message or leave a voicemail for House lawmakers in support of these three bills.
