Protect WA Immigrants

Official Daily Action for February 12th, 2019

Part of a coordinated statewide action

While immigration policy again convulses the federal government, we have a great opportunity here in Washington State to stand up for immigrants. The Keep Washington Working Act would guarantee that state and local governments will not play a part in helping remove people from the United States. Yesterday we asked you to write to the chairs of the state legislative committees considering the Keep Washington Working Act. Today please urge your own state legislators to support this vital legislation.

The proposed law directs specific state agencies to review their confidentiality polices and identify changes necessary in order to make sure the agency is not compiling data which may be used for immigration enforcement. It prohibits state agencies from using their resources to investigate, enforce, cooperate with, or assist immigration enforcement agencies; prohibits local law enforcement agencies from transferring or holding individuals for federal immigration authorities; and prohibits local law enforcement agencies from placing people into federal custody.

Passing this bill is Seattle Indivisible’s top state legislative priority!
