Thousands of Liberian immigrants who came to the US over the past 30 years were set to lose their Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status and risk being deported on March 31, but the administration yesterday, in a rare move of good will, gave a one year reprieve to the program. However, this is still only a temporary status, and provides no path to citizenship.
We need to pass a permanent fix to this problem: The Dream and Promise Act (H.R. 6). This would provide a permanent legal status for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and DED holders, and prevent the administration from unilaterally ending future TPS protections.
Both Representatives Jayapal and Smith have sponsored this bill, but given the urgency of this situation, we want them to ensure that this bill gets passed.
Action: Ask our Representatives to pass the Dream and Promise Act
