No more forever wars

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is one of the “must-pass bills” Congress has to vote on every year, which means it’s a good opportunity for Democrats to use their power to attach progressive priorities to a bill that, well, must pass. With that in mind, here are a few of the amendments that Members of Congress (MoCs) should support adding to the NDAA to check Trump’s war powers and make us all more secure (there are *hundreds* of amendments on a lot of different issues that affect many different communities, and the ones we highlight here are just a few that we’re watching!).

Amendment 26 would end US support for the Saudi-led coalition committing war crimes in Yemen. (Remember S.J.Res. 7, the Yemen resolution, which passed the House and Senate this year before Trump vetoed it? This is another chance for Congress to force it into law.)

Amendment 217 calls for an end of the Korean War (which never officially ended) & a diplomatic path forward to denuclearization.

Amendment 423 would prohibit unauthorized military force against Iran.

Amendment 424 would repeal the Iraq War authorization.

Amendment 462 would prevent funding for unauthorized military force in Venezuela.

All of these amendments are important not just for stopping Trump from getting us into more wars—they’re important for stopping our endless wars, period. Our MoCs should support all of these amendments, so make sure you call and tell them that you expect that they will support Amendments 26, 217, 423, 424, and 462 to the NDAA!
