No Vote on NAFTA 2.0

Our friends at the Washington State Labor Council are part of a national call-in day to stop NAFTA 2.0. Though NAFTA needed a revision, this is not what we were looking for. It fails to improve the environmental and labor shortfalls of the first agreement, and contains significant giveaways to pharmaceutical companies.

We're giving you a different number today so that WSLC knows how many people their message has reached, though their number will still call your Members of Congress.

Per the WSLC:

After 25 years of NAFTA empowering corporations to undermine basic labor standards, attack environmental laws, and outsource more than 1 million U.S. jobs, the revised NAFTA 2.0 deal that Donald Trump signed in late 2018 is not the transformational replacement we need. In fact, in addition to failing to include strong labor rights enforcement provisions, it includes language that the pharmaceutical companies wanted that would lock in high drug prices in the United States.

TAKE A STAND — Tuesday, Aug. 20 is National “No Vote on NAFTA 2.0 Until It’s Fixed” Call-In Day. Please call 1-855-973-4213 to leave a message for your member of Congress to promise not to support Trump’s revised NAFTA unless and until the administration fixes it. No vote should be held on NAFTA 2.0 until its Big Pharma giveaways are removed, and its labor and environmental standards are improved.

They've provided a call tool to make the calls for you, and to give you a script to use:

"Join fellow activitsts at Code Blue WA, Wallingford Indivisible and Sister District Puget Sound as we learn the ins and outs of making calls to voters with Guest Trainer, Sister District's Organizing Manager and Obama 2008 Field Organizer, Neal Morgan. We make our biggest impact on a close election from afar by TALKING with our voters and collecting data that helps canvassers on the ground have the right conversations with the right voters.

"Our training will be followed by hands-on experience making calls in support of our two Virginia legislature cadidates Debra Rodman and Josh Cole. This event will jump-start phonebanking in and around Seattle for the final weeks of the campaign."
