Defund Hate: Stop Robbing Disaster Relief to Expand Detention Camps

Trump has ordered ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to steal $271 million from disaster relief funds and instead funnel it into his ridiculous border wall, which Congress has rightfully refused to fund. This is happening because ICE has a vague “transfer and reprogramming authority” that allows it to take funds from other agencies in the DHS – such as FEMA – to expand its own operations without Congressional input.

Yesterday we asked you to demand that our representatives impeach Trump because of this and the myriad other illegal actions that he’s taken. Today, let’s call to make sure our reps take every action possible to stop this heist from happening. First of all, ask them to publicly denounce the administration’s actions – and follow up by making sure they know that we want a 2020 spending bill that puts an end to DHS’s ability to manipulate the appropriations process to expand ICE’s budget.

ACTION: Take Away ICE's Authority to Steal

Rep. Pramila Jayapal--DC 202-225-3106; Seattle 206-674-0040

Rep. Adam Smith--DC 202-225-8901; Renton 425-793-5180

Sen. Patty Murray--DC 202-224-2621; Seattle 206-553-5545

Sen. Maria Cantwell--DC 202-224-3441; Seattle 206-220-6400

"Hello, I’m [NAME] and I’m calling from [PLACE]. I am furious that the Trump administration is pulling millions of dollars from disaster relief and using the money to expand its awful humanitarian abuses at the border. I would like [Rep/Sen] to publicly denounce this thievery, and further I would like her/him to put an end to ICE’s transfer and programming authority by writing it in to a 2020 spending bill. It is time to defund hate."

Seattle, WA

"Join fellow activitsts at Code Blue WA, Wallingford Indivisible and Sister District Puget Sound as we learn the ins and outs of making calls to voters with Guest Trainer, Sister District's Organizing Manager and Obama 2008 Field Organizer, Neal Morgan. We make our biggest impact on a close election from afar by TALKING with our voters and collecting data that helps canvassers on the ground have the right conversations with the right voters.

"Our training will be followed by hands-on experience making calls in support of our two Virginia legislature candidates Debra Rodman and Josh Cole. This event will jump-start phonebanking in and around Seattle for the final weeks of the campaign."
