Americans Want Assault Weapons Banned

In the wake of the most recent mass shootings, gun control is on our minds. We have called multiple times in the past week asking Congress to please act by reconvening and passing background check legislation. In addition to strengthening background checks, there is another action we need Congress to take in response to the epidemic of mass shootings: Renewing the assault weapons ban, which Republicans allowed to expire in 2004.

Twin bills have been introduced in the House and the Senate – H.R. 1296 and S. 66 – known as the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019.

Trump recently stated that he sees “no political appetite” to ban assault weapons, even though polls show that 2/3 of Americans support such a ban. Our legislators are likely on our side in this, but it is important to raise their call tallies as evidence – we want assault weapons banned now!

Action: Pass the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019

Rep. Pramila Jayapal: DC – 202-225-3106; Seattle: 206-674-0040

Rep. Adam Smith: DC – 202-225-8901; Renton – 425-793-5180

Senator Patty Murray: DC – 202-224-2621; Seattle – 206-553-5545

Senator Maria Cantwell: DC – 202-224-3441; Seattle – 206-220-6400

Script:

“Hi, my name is [NAME] and I am calling from [PLACE] to ask you to do everything you can to pass the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019. President Trump wrongly believes that there is no “political appetite” for an assault weapons ban. I am one of the majority of Americans who think it is past time to pass this and other common-sense gun reform bills.”
