Seattle for a Green New Deal

Good news - the Seattle City Council passed its own version of a Green New Deal resolution last month, promising to make the city "free of climate pollutants" by 2030! The resolution is nonbinding, but let's ask them to start turning their promise into action by passing the next step: a Green New Deal Oversight Committee to oversee an equitable transition.

Today we are passing along this action from the local climate group 350Seattle (350Seattle.org). Even though it is the weekend you can still leave voicemails for your city council members. Please call and email! Here's 350Seattle:

After passing a Green New Deal for Seattle resolution last month, the Seattle City Council has an opportunity to follow up their words with actions. Can you please call these four key swing votes and ask them to vote YES on ALL of the climate legislation before them this month?

District 1 Council Member Herbold: 206-684-8803

District 4 Council Member Pacheco: 206-684-8808

District 7 Council Member Bagshaw: 206-684-8801

Citywide Council Member Gonzalez: 206-684-8802

Suggested Call Script:

“Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I am calling to ask that Council Member [NAME] support the Green New Deal Oversight Committee ordinance that will be voted on this Monday. Creating a Green New Deal Oversight Committee, made up of representatives of communities most impacted by economic and environmental injustice in our city, is a vital step toward realizing a just and equitable Green New Deal for our city. Please pass the strongest possible version of the Green New Deal Oversight Committee ordinance..”

Once you have made your calls, can you also please send an email to the Council Members as well?

District 1 Council Member Herbold: lisa.herbold@seattle.gov

District 4 Council Member Pacheco: abel.pacheco@seattle.gov

District 7 Council Member Bagshaw: sally.bagshaw@seattle.gov

Citywide Council Member Gonzalez: lorena.gonzalez@seattle.gov
