Ingrid just got back from the US/Mexico border. She was there when the US border patrol used tear gas on families. Join us to hear her first hand account of what she witnessed and find out what you can do to help.

We rally every Tuesday in front of the Federal Building from 11:45AM-12:30PM to listen to educational and inspiration speakers and live activist musicians. Then, following the rally, we go inside to meet with Senator Murray's and Senator Cantwell's staff from 12:30-1:30PM where they give us our senators' perspective of what is going on during this chaotic time, respond to our questions on the issues and take our input directly to our senators. This is amazing public access to our representatives and all are welcome to attend this public meeting.

Please join us this week, and every week, for Resist Trump Tuesday . We began these weekly gatherings in January 2017 and we persist in our fight against the harm caused by the Trump agenda. We need your voice!

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal--with all of her passion and inspiration--will be our featured speaker at Resist Trump Tuesday on Election Day. She will talk to us about the election, the future, and the election night party she is hosting! This is just what the doctor ordered hours before we are glued to the TV all evening with heart palpatations watching election returns. Don't miss this opportunity to hear Rep. Jayapal in person--but make sure you mail in your ballot before you come!

Immediately after the 11:45AM-12:30PM rally, we usually go inside the Federal Building to meet with Senator Murray's and Senator Cantwell's staff. This is your chance to tell your representatives what's on your mind--haven't you always wanted to do that? But on this Election Day, the senators’ staff is otherwise engaged so there will be no meeting with staff this week.

Come join us this Tuesday, and every Tuesday, for Resist Trump Tuesday. We bring you knowledgeable speakers, live music and the information and tools to empower each and every one of us to be a catalyst for progressive change.

Families For Families Children's March

SEE BELOW FOR SPANISH / ABAJO PARA ESPANOL

Families for Families: A Children-led March to demand justice for all Immigrant Families!

Families are still being separated by cruel immigration policies, and children are still being locked in cages! Regulations such as the public charge rule are further curtailing the rights of immigrants. While national attention has turned away from these abuses happening in our country, violations of human dignity and rights continue. The Freedom for Immigrants Campaign (Families Belong Together WA coalition) believes it's time for us to continue to raise awareness, advocate for justice, and demand an end to the separation and detention of immigrant families!

Together we demand justice for all immigrants. Together we stand with our children as they lift their voices of resistance against the unjust detention of their peers and their parents. Together we say that families belong together, not detained. Gather with us on Sunday, October 28th at 2:00 pm at Centro de la Raza Centilia Center to add your hands, feet, and voices with family members of all ages and generations as we seek #FreedomForImmigrants and stand #Families4Families!

*** ESPANOL

Hamdi will explain the importance of grassroots engagement if we are going to get the government we want and make our government work for the people. Our Causes Are Connected And We Need A Choir Of Progressive Voices

At our rally this Tuesday, we will discuss where we go from here in the aftermath of the Kavanaugh confirmation vote. Tae Phoenix will not only share her inspiring music at the rally, but will also speak about her experiences participating in the Kavanaugh confirmation battle in Washington D.C. We will discuss lessons learned and how we translate this energy into meaningful electoral change.

In our continuing work in coalition with Families Belong Together and a number of immigrant rights organizations, we also will welcome a speaker to educate us on the latest effort by the Trump Admin to penalize immigrants for using needed public services under the new “Public Charge” rule.

Efforts to marginalize, exclude and silence women, minorities and immigrants are all interrelated, and recent events only underscore why we all need to continue to stand up for one another and mobilize together to make our voices heard in the midterm elections.

COME JOIN US, WE NEED YOUR VOICE!

Note: We will not be having our regularly scheduled meeting with senate staff following our Tuesday rally this week due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts with the staffers, but this regular weekly meeting will resume on Oct. 16th.

Mitch McConnell says the Kavanaugh vote will be this week. Vigils are planned across the nation for tonight—and we need huge turnouts to show those Senators that the people will not stand by and let this nomination be rammed through. So please, everyone, come out tonight from 6-7PM at Cal Anderson Park to show that the Seattle area stands with the nation in demanding a “no” vote on Kavanaugh. We expect more from a Supreme Court nominee. Tonight’s vigil is co-sponsored by NARAL, Planned Parenthood Votes NW & Hawaii and Seattle Indivisible.

Jesse Wineberry will explain how current law makes it difficult to recruit, hire or promote applicants who are under-represented and how I-1000 would change that.

We will also welcome a speaker from Families For Families to speak on the Trump administration's new policy of indefinite detention of immigrant children and how the administration's threat of no green card if you're a "public charge" has immigrant families fearfully avoiding needed public services.

Following our rally from 11:45AM-12:30PM, we will proceed inside for our weekly 12:30-1:30PM meeting with Senator Murray's and Senator Cantwell's staff. They are our representatives, come ask questions and tell them what you think.

Reisist Trump Tuesday--Peace Vigil Honoring Joe Colgan

This week Seattle Indivisible is dedicating RTT to Joe Colgan and the Downtown Peace Vigil.

Gold Star father and Army veteran Joe Colgan started what is referred to informally as "The Downtown Peace Vigil". Joe lost his son Lt. Ben Colgan, in Baghdad, Iraq, November 1, 2003. In 2006, Joe started the vigil. Every Tuesday from 11am to 1pm Joe and a group of volunteers set up in front of the Federal Building talking to people about the virtues of pacifism and the dangers of the military industrial complex. They collect postcards every week and deliver them to the offices of both Senators Murray and Cantwell. Once a month Vets4Peace joins them to show support.

Seeing Joe there every week has been inspirational as he set an example of persistence through adversity.

This coming Tuesday will be Joe's last Vigil and we're looking to honor him!

ATTN: There will be no staff meeting this week, but please show up and honor someone who really deserves it.

Endeavour Capital: Respect Our Rights, Say No to Hate!

About: Endeavour Capital is a Pacific Northwest-based private equity firm with an office in downtown Seattle. One of their repeat limited partner investors is the Murdock Charitable Trust, which has given millions of dollars to extremist groups that campaign against LGBTQI rights, promote “gay conversion therapy,” provide false medical information to women seeking reproductive health services, and use aggressive and misleading tactics to undermine public employee unions. Endeavour also invests in companies like Aladdin Bail Bonds, which profits from our unjust cash bail system, and New Seasons, which called in union busting consultants to intimidate their employees in Portland.

Join Seattle Indivisible, women’s organizations, LGBTQI activists, and workers as we demand that Endeavour Capital and their portfolio companies respect our rights and stop enriching the Murdock Charitable Trust.

More information:

The Murdock Trust has donated $975,000 to the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF)
The ADF defends LGBTQ conversion therapy
The ADF fights against marriage equality
The ADF promotes anti-transgender discrimination bills nationally, including the “bathroom bills”
The ADF represents plaintiffs like Masterpiece Cakeshop - arguing for legalized discrimination against LGBTQ customers

The Murdock Trust has donated $1,547,200 to fund “pregnancy crisis centers”
These centers pose as legitimate medical or counseling clinics, but exist to prevent women from accessing abortion services
NARAL Pro-Choice America has asked for the boycott and defunding of these clinics

The Murdock Trust has donated $765,000 to the Freedom Foundation
The Freedom Foundation seeks to eliminate paid sick leave and opposes minimum wage increases for low-wage workers.
The Freedom Foundation staff publicly opposed the Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage arguing that it is a “threat to personal freedom.”
The Freedom Foundation quotes in their blog “doom-and-gloom scenarios about climate change are based on a combination of political agendas and junk science.”
The Freedom Foundation’s staff consistently attacks Planned Parenthood, calling them a “radical social organization” and a “baby killing, body-part brokering, government money consuming machine.

Phone Bank Into Alaska To Pressure Sen. Murkowski's SCOTUS Vote

WONDERING WHAT YOU CAN DO TO MAKE SURE TRUMP DOES NOT GET A SUPREME COURT PICK TO OVERTURN ABORTION RIGHTS?

This week at our regular weekly meeting, Seattle Indivisible is hosting a phone bank into Alaska trying to persuade Alaska voters to ask Sen. Murkowski (R-AK) to vote against Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court. The goal is to call Alaska voters, patch them through to Senator Murkowski’s office, and have them leave a message asking her to block any SCOTUS nominee who doesn’t support Roe v Wade.  Training will be provided!

PLEASE BRING A FULLY CHARGED LAPTOP (OR TABLET) AND CELL PHONE. The phone calls into Alaska are routed through an online service you access on your computer to your cell phone. It’s easy--training only takes 5 minutes. If you don’t have a laptop or tablet to bring, let us know and we’ll arrange for extras.

We need an approximate count of how many will be attending, so please RSVP by clicking “going” on this Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/276842793124202/?ti=icl

This event is invite only.  The reason for the Facebook event is to keep you informed as we hope to make real progress and positive change for ALL immigrants here in Washington State.

This event has two goals.  Governor Jay Inslee has agreed to meet with our coalition. Our demands are clear.  We hope to make some news.  Stay tuned...

In addition, because the federal government has no moral compass our coalition believes it's more important than ever to to show immigrants and the rest of the country our values.

We value diversity, compassion, integrity, honesty, empathy for all and believe our nation should aspire to be something greater.

We will join with refugees, those granted asylum, and immigrants from all over the world to celebrate the values we cherish. Let's end the zero tolerance policy that has criminalized black and brown bodies and has created the crisis of family separation we have today #FreedomForImmigrants

Put Yourself In My Shoes

Immigrant and refugee children need your support now more than ever. Join us as we demand immigrant families be reunited and we donate shoes to immigrant and refugee children. Washington CAN, One America, Casa Latina, joined by allies Seattle Indivisible and The Washington Bus will be standing outside the USCIS Application Support Center demanding immigrant children be reunited with their parents.

We ask that you stand in our shoes, as immigrant parents who love our children and will cross continents to keep them safe. We will be putting out thousands of donated shoes in front of the USCIS Application Support Center to make it clear how many children are being devastated by the Trump Administration's horrifying family separation policy.

We are collecting more than 2.400 children's shoes by July 2. After the rally at the USCIS, we will donate the shoes to WestSide Baby and they will distribute the shoes to immigrant and refugee children.

Drop off or mail shoes to: Casa Latina, 317 17th Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98144.
