About Seattle Indivisible

We are Seattle Indivisible, an effective, progressive, inclusive and persistent grassroots organization inspired by the nationwide Indivisible Movement.

We are engaged in a struggle for the very soul of our nation. We envision a future where we have rebuilt the bridge between constituents and our government and have translated our grassroots energy into progressive electoral power.

Our mission is to defend our democracy and build a just, equitable society through constituent advocacy and grassroots action.

We will achieve our mission by:

  •  influencing our members of Congress and holding them accountable through persuasive, peaceful forms of expression;
  • supporting allied groups to advance progressive causes;
  • assisting Indivisible groups in red and purple states and districts to bolster their efforts;
  • providing a rapid response network to support our causes and our allied groups’ causes;
  • supporting state and local actions that help us protect our communities from harmful policies.

Who is Seattle Indivisible? Seattle Indivisible is an all-volunteer group focused on influencing our elected representatives via the grassroots to help enact progressive change. It was founded as a Facebook group on January 1, 2017 by two people, and has grown to over 8,000 Facebook members, 1,200 email subscribers, and a dedicated group of volunteers.

We are building a sustainable and long-term organized coalition of everyday people targeting our local Members of Congress with the message that their constituents expect them to say “No!” to regressive policies as loudly and as often as possible, and “Yes!” to progressive legislation. Seattle Indivisible covers Washington’s 7th and 9th Congressional districts, represented by Congresswoman Pramilla Jayapal and Congressman Adam Smith, as well as Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell.

We are a local chapter of the Indivisible movement, and are inspired by the Indivisible Guide. The Indivisible Guide was written by a group of former Congressional staffers who witnessed the success of the Tea Party and turned their experiences into a practical guide for enacting political change from the grassroots.

Structure

Seattle Indivisible is a 501c4 non-profit with a President, Board of Directors, and various volunteer-led action teams.

At Seattle Indivisible we believe in letting the impacted community lead: So we also have an Advisory Council made up of local representatives of marginalized communities and those directly impacted by the policies we fight for. The Board consults with the Advisory Council when endorsing policy, candidates, and actions.

Principles

  • Focus
    • We resist racism, authoritarianism, and corruption in government. We will resist any agenda that espouses those principles. We are committed to protecting our country and our neighbors from these threats.
  • Action
    • Participation matters! Whether it means organizing, calling members of congress, showing up at townhalls, or reaching out to others. The Indivisible Guide demonstrates how powerful a small group of focused citizens can be, and it’s already working. We will be better organized and more broadly based than the Tea Party, and therefore more influential – only if we commit to action. Each of us can find a way to participate that’s appropriate for our skills and values.
  • Facts
    • People come here looking for ways to act, not ways to whip each other into a frenzy. We will verify truth and understand issues before acting on them. This means no posting of memes or click-bait, no ranting, etc.
  • Amplify
    • We aim to amplify the voices and the asks of the people and communities most directly impacted by public policy, especially those who are marginalized and oppressed.
